Airports or Shopping Malls?

The news that Britain is to keep the one piece of hand baggage rule in place is putting the country's airports out of step with much of the rest of the world and why? If it's for security reasons how come other countries allow more? The airlines don't like it and they clearly have security at the top of their list. So it must be the BAA that is behind the decision. Of course it suits them because no one is stopping people from shopping at their vast airside shopping malls and buying more bags full of stuff. The argument is that all these items are secure. But it's making it difficult for Britain's airlines to compete for transit passengers and all because the BAA are more interested in shopping than flying. They'll find it's a short term view that'll cost tem in the end
